Day 34

We left the boat early this morning to make it to church. We caught the 7:30 bus to the airport. From there we took the Leonardo diVinci Express train to central Rome.

Next, we took the metro to via Valle Aurellia. Then, Dad (aka hip-hop Alan)

got out his GPS and we started walking. (Last time Dad walked to church in his church shoes he got blisters.) At about 10:15 (almost 3 hours later) we somehow found the church. Luckily, two wards meet in that building so we were able to go to gospel doctrine for a little while and then sacrament meeting at 11:20. Again, the meeting was translated by missionaries. We got to listen with headsets!

After church a very nice lady showed us how to take the bus to the metro station.

From there we decided to visit the famous Colosseum and Roman Forum. We got audio guides for the Roman Forum.

In Ancient Rome a forum was a shopping mall, civic center, and religious complex all in one.

The original forum was developed in the 7th century BC. It grew and changed over a period of about 900 years. While it was amazing to see the remains of something so old, it was also quite overwhelming and the sun was melting us.

Next we crossed the piazza to the Colosseum. It is also VERY impressive.

Too bad we didn't have time to enroll in Gladiator School. (Courses last 2 months, cost €112, and cover both theory and combat.)

There were still a couple more things we wanted to see before we left Rome. Michelangelo's Moses located in Saint Peter in Chains church. (Which also displays the "actual" chains that incarcerated Saint Peter.

People watching at the Spanish Steps.

Our last stop was this beautiful piazza

where there happened to be an NBA Europe rally going on. This photo is for you Jordan!

By the time we made it back to the Fuimicino airport the buses had stopped running. So we cautiously took a taxi home. Upon arrival we were greeted by Luigi and his friends. We sat and hung out with them for awhile mixing English, French, Spanish, Italian, and sign language.
