Day 23

Hello!! After two solid days of traveling and five airports I can't believe I'm actually here in Italy with my dad and three sisters! I am so happy to be here! This morning we had to take care of some more logistical things. We moved the boat to another port and we tried to find out if our passports needed to be stamped here in Italy. After getting the run-around we found that apparently once you're in the EU it doesn't really matter (hopefully.)

Genoa is known as the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.

(This is the house he was born in)

The harbor was renovated in 1992 in preparation for the 500th anniversary of his discovery of America. In the harbor we noticed an unusual water-craft. Juliann and Lindsay saw this very boat several months ago in the Oakland Marina!

After a brief down pour of rain and lunch we headed out to explore Genoa. We had a great time walking up and down the labyrinth of caruggi (dark narrow alleys.)

We ran into the Elders and had a great time chatting with them. The Gothic black and white striped marble San Lorenzo cathedral is stunning.

We made sure to sample some of the Genoese foccia bread as Ariel and Brad recommended. Delicious! At about 9:30 p.m. we walked Malorie up to the bus station and said our good-byes.

Malorie is going home. I was sad that I only got to spend one day with her! We will miss you Mal!!! ARRIVEDERCI!
