Day 21

Day two in Nice! It was a beautiful day today. Lindsay and I hit the beach in the morning.

The beaches in Nice are rocky instead of sandy, but the water is pretty. It's more fun to swim in the ocean when the water is clear.

After the beach we went back to the boat to pick up Mal and then headed out to find some lunch. We headed in the direction of this open antique flea market area called Cours Saleya

and ended up at a great lunch spot.

The food was so good. (Those things that look like french fries on top are cinnamon apples.)

After lunch we wondered around town walking through different shopping districts all over town. After walking for a few hours we headed back to the boat for dinner. Before dinner we made a stop at the grocery store for some food. It was on the way home from the grocery store that I spotted something very surprising. A foam store! This is ironic for several reasons. Before this trip Malorie sewed some cushion covers for the "patio" area of the boat. Dad wasn't worried at all that he didn't actually have any foam to put inside of them. He's been saying for weeks "we'll just find a foam store" and "we just have to find an IKEA". And for weeks, the rest of us have been thinking that this would be HIGHLY unlikely. First of all, I've never seen a store that sells just foam, and second of all what are the chances that a foam store would be close to the harbor? It's hard enough to find a grocery store near the harbor in most towns.

But sure enough, this was both close to the harbor and also a store that just sells foam. Dad was really excited to find it.

The man that owned the foam store didn't have time to cut it into the correct dimensions before closing time, so we just took the whole thing as is, since we were leaving Nice first thing in the morning.

We carried this gigantic piece of foam a few blocks down to the harbor and then past the big yacht that was parked next to us :) The yacht with the Porche Carerra on board, and who's owner was spotted earlier in the day wearing golf clothes.

We got the foam successfully on the boat and then Linds, Mal, and I walked over to the chateau that is on the very top of the hill near the harbor.

On the way up we saw this panoramic view, this cemetary,

and this waterfall.

Somehow Mal also found time in the day to start working on a set of coasters from a sailors' knot that she learned how to tie.

You Wheelers are so crafty. Buying foam in France? Coasters out of knots? What will you think of next? Wish you guys were here- Morgan wants to have a cat party and Lindsay's cats would have been invited. Oh well, look what you're missing out on!

Hi Lindsay and family,

I finally had a moment to check out your blog. What a great trip. Even though we were just in Cannes last summer, I am still jealous. What a wonderful adventure. Est-ce que tu apprends France?

Wish I was there too!!

Karen, William's cousin Deb wants your address because Matt would hang out all the time at her house when he was on his mission and eat cookies. I was with her at girl's camp and she asked about him. Will you email it to Linds and then she can send it on to me? Thanks, Marie
