Day 15

This morning we got to use the shower on the boat for the first time! We were excited to finally have power and hot water at this port, and to not have to use the showers at the marina (which are usually cold). To celebrate the fact that we also have power in the fridge we made ourselves a nice breakfast with perishable foods. hooray!

The weather was beautiful today. Linds, Mal and I walked up to the highest point of the island where there is an old castle, and a great view of the ocean, and some vineyards.

When we came back to the boat we found Alan chatting with the neighbors on their boat. Mal and I stopped by and also ended up staying for a while. Bert and Colleen (two friendly Brits) quickly became our new friends. We talked for a while about just about everything, and they told us some cool stories about their previous sailing adventures. There is a lot of talk among sailors in this part of the world about the Minstrel winds that are very strong in the Mediterranean. Bert knows a guy who owned a very expensive boat, "his pride and joy" as he called it. One day he stepped off his boat onto a dingy, and suddenly the winds came up so quickly that this guy watched his boat sail away from him and crash against some rocks. This story had us all amazed. I love swapping stories with other sailors.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty relaxing. Malorie kept Lindsay company on the boat (still working on that website deadline) while I walked over to one of the beaches nearby.

That night as we were enjoying a fantastic dinner on the "patio" we got a good laugh when some people two boats down erupted into loud singing and accordion playing. It was like something out of a movie.

hello wheelers,
just caught up on your blog, great pictures, it's like you've had some practice Juliann. Hopefully you'll get your bike and dingy soon and be off. The pictures make me homesick for France. Some good patisseries are: millefeuille, religieuse, or chausson aux pommes. And of course petits pains au chocolat. It's kind of nice to know that you guys are somewhat close to my timezone...

I thought the same thing as I saw the picture of big Al. I could hear him say "Juz a leetle Beet" just as he did at the ol' Burmese place. I don't know who wrote which days, but the commentary is starting to remind me of some other travel logs I've read before. :) I guess that's what France does to you.

You are the perfect picture of beauty! We are having a huge lightning storm with a tornado watch tonight. FUN! Still wish I was with you. Mal, your pillows are adorable! Linds, I thought you "left your job to sail the Sea"? I don't know how you can possibly work when there is an island to explore. Your employer should be proud. :) Juls, The photos are beautiful...they could all be postcards. I love the blog! and I'm glad you are still alive :)
