Day 3

Quite a day! Our train for Paris was scheduled to leave at 1:00 in the afternoon, so we didn't have much time. We started off the day at Buckingham Palace

Where the best part (of course) are the men in red coats and fuzzy hats!

There was a cute little park on the way (St. James's Park) where the squirrels are very domesticated. -Lindsay wants me to mention, NO zoom on this photo-

We also went to Westminster Abby and Big Ben, but we were rushing to the train station, so we only had time for a few quick pictures.

Now back to the hotel to get our luggage. Between the 3 of us, we had 5 bags, 4 of which in the range of 40-60 lbs (which included boat supplies from Big Al) . We rolled ourselves to the London station, and slammed down the stairs to our first destination. 4 more transfers to go! But, it wasn't that simple. As Juliann and I were struggling to get onto a metro there was a crowd of frantic Parisians rushing to get on. I lift the back end of the duffel, and slide it in, Juliann is on! Now, I had to pull up another large bag onto the train. The warning beep sounded, and Lindsay was still waiting to get on! In a panic, i yanked the retractable handle, yanked it so hard, it broke off.

And the door closed. And Lindsay was left behind with 3 bags, one of which, in shambles. An old couple felt sorry for her, and helped her get the bags onto the train where she met us at the next stop. The rest of the journey was climbing up and down staircase after staircase to each metro stop. We don't know why there weren't any escalators.

We were exhausted, to say the least.

We made it to Paris! And we are still alive. So, we checked into our hotel at about 9:00pm, went to a creperie down the street, took us about 10 minutes to order -language barrier- but after Lindsay ordering the frommage e tomate crepe, they finally understood, no- she did not want fish in the crepe. And in clear daylight, we fell into a deep deep sleep.

I knew if you took too much luggage, your dad would fill it up with boat stuff. You just have to haul it a few more hours! So close! Love the blog!

I'm so jealous you're in Paris. Speaking of urban scents--I think the city of light smells like cigarette smoke and exhaust with just a dash of urine. But I still love it.

Thanks for the great updates. Looks like you guys are having a blast. Not that I'm jealous or anything. No, I'd much rather be here in Milwaukee than jaunting around Europe. At least I can travel vicariously through you. Thanks for that!
